A House Built to Be Lived In

The Grand Lux Inn was originally built as a family residence by Woods and Thoma, on a corner lot shaded by trees that, by now, are nearly as old as the house itself. From the start, it was built for people — a wraparound porch made for evenings outside, generous rooms meant for gathering, and a location just steps from what would become downtown Tullahoma's restaurants, shops, and coffee.

For decades, that's exactly what it was: a home. Not a landmark, not a business — just a well-loved house on a well-loved street, standing through Tullahoma's growth, its seasons, and generations of the people who walked through its front door.

From Family Home to Home Away From Home

Somewhere along the way, that house started doing what good homes do — it began welcoming people who weren't family, and treating them like they were. Today, the same building that once housed one family now welcomes travelers from all over: business travelers passing through, couples celebrating an anniversary, families in town for a Tullahoma wedding, and festival-goers looking for something warmer than a chain hotel off the highway.

The name changed. The purpose expanded. But the feeling — the "home away from home" — never did.

What's Still Original

Renovating a 1905 home for modern guests takes a careful hand, and it's a project The Grand Lux Inn has never treated lightly. Walk through today and you'll still find the house's original hardwood floors underfoot, its original molding along the walls and ceilings, a pocket door that's slid open and shut for well over a hundred years, and the same staircase that generations of the house's residents climbed before you.

Everything else — the six guest rooms, the private bathrooms, the fully stocked kitchen, the self-serve continental breakfast — was added with the goal of making the house work for today's guests without erasing what made it worth preserving in the first place.

The Inn Today

The Grand Lux Inn is now home to six individually named guest rooms — the Lyon, Norfolk, Hunt, Carlyle, Georgia, and Chezy rooms — each with its own character, and the option to rent the entire inn for reunions, retreats, or a full house of your own people. It sits within easy walking distance of downtown Tullahoma, making it as much a basecamp for exploring the city as it is a destination in its own right.

Behind the scenes, it's still very much a house run by people who care about it: innkeepers Adam and Lauren, who own The Grand Lux Inn today, along with Laura Daniel, part of the team that keeps the day-to-day hospitality running for every guest who stays.
